Lady Dawgs closing the gap

The score remained tied 1-1 when time expired in the sixth inning the Warriors got to finish their last at bat eventually winning with a walk-off homerun.

The varsity Lady Bulldog softball team challenged themselves over three days last week with tournament play in a loaded Round Rock Westwood Invitational. Hosted teams included the 4A Lady Bulldogs, as well as 5A Lubbock, 5A Vista Ridge, 6A Akins, 6A Montgomery, and 6A Westwood.
It was a tall order for the Lady Bulldogs who are still working out some kinks but the girls did progress throughout the three days and five games.
Burnet opened the tournament on Thursday morning with a 10-0 loss to Akins. Sam Robison hit a double in the game and singles were recorded by Jayci Craig and Natalie Frank.
The Lady Dawgs toughest loss came Thursday afternoon when they fell short to Montgomery, 16-1. Burnet’s lone run in that game was provided by the bat of Frank who hit a left center field homerun. Mackenzie Goertz and Alex Barry connected for singles.
Friday morning the Lady Dawgs took to the field against Vista Ridge. It was a much better performance and Burnet was just edged out, 6-5. Craig led at the bat with two doubles and two RBIs. Also hitting well was Robison, Baby Romero, Frank, and Danielle Nusbaum.
On Saturday the Lady Dawgs faced host Westwood who was the best team in the tournament. With the game knotted up at 1-1 the Lady Warriors hit a two-run walk-off homerun capturing the win, 3-1.
Burnet’s run was scored by Barry off a Craig RBI.
Robison and Romero did a good job handling the pitching duties for the Lady Dawgs during the tournament.
On Tuesday night the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Canyon Lake. This Thursday they will begin play in the three-day Blanco tournament.
