Bulldogs' hurdler, sprinter roll on to berth at state meet

The Bulldogs were well represented at last weekend’s 4A Region III Track Meet which was held at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. Two Bulldog athletes emerged from Regional competition and earned a spot to compete at state.
Ian Carter and Sterling Galban, both juniors at BHS, earned the right to continue their 2017 track season at the state level with top finishes in the 110 hurdles and 100 meter dash.
Carter qualified for the 110 finals on Friday and ran a blazing 14.28 on Saturday to earn Regional Gold and punch his ticket to state.
Carter also placed third in the long jump at regionals with a new personal best leap of 21’.5.
Galban followed suit on Friday and earned himself a spot in Saturday’s finals in the 100 meter dash. He ran a blistering 10.48 in the finals to place second overall at Regionals and advance to state.
Also on the boys side Steven Gallardo took fifth in the long jump.
Joel Holland placed sixth in the high jump and set a new personal best record with a leap of 6’4.
Caelin Graves competed but was unable to make finals in the high jump and triple jump.
Burnet’s two relay teams also fell short of Saturday’s finals.
On the Lady Dawgs side Marissa Escamilla and the mile relay team advanced past Friday’s prelims to Saturday’s finals.
During finals competition Escamilla placed eighth in the 200 meter dash.
The mile relay team of Macy Holloway, Dream Romero, Tanya Laurenti, and Escamilla posted a seventh place finish in the finals.
Sophomore Kinley Beyer represented Burnet in the pole vault competition but was unable to advance to finals.
The UIL State Track meet will be hosted by the University of Texas in Austin. Carter and Galban will compete in the evening session on Saturday, May 13.
