Scholarships awarded

David and Trenton DeSpain present the Cooper DeSpain Memorial Scholarship to BHS seniors Clay Chasteen, Lexey Parker, Reagan Giesenschlag, and Cash Ringstaff at Thursday night's Scholarship Awards program at BHS. The scholarship is in memory of the DeSpain's young son, Cooper, who tragically lost his life in an ATV accident on Aug. 8, 2014. Last year the DeSpain's provided two scholarships, but through continued community support this year they were able to provide for 15 graduates, include the four Burnet students pictured above. The Hill Country Community Foundation provided over $300,000 to Burnet graduates through scholarship awards and that number combined with the community scholarships reached more than $500,000 for the 165 BHS students honored.
