40th Oatmeal Festival scheduled for Sept. 1-2

Are you guys ready for a boot scootin' good time? Well, the quaint Texas Hill Country town of Bertram is preparing itself for this year's annual Labor Day event, their 40th Annual Oatmeal Festival. The famous festival begins Friday evening at 5:03 p.m., in the nearby town of Oatmeal TX with a Beauty Pageant, vendors, and live music. The fun doesn't end on Friday. Festival activities continue all day Sept.2 in Bertram. There will be many free family events to enjoy on Saturday starting at 8:03 p.m,. COME JOIN US… ENJOY!! Some of the year's activities will include a guided trail-ride from Oatmeal to Bertram, 3.3-mile fun run, Oatmeal themed baking competition, pet parade, an Oatmeal Grand Parade, live music during the day, many children's games and water activities, and street dancing to top off the evening. Runners from across the great state of Texas are expected to take part in the legendary 3.3 mile Run for Your Oats in downtown Bertram Saturday morning. No need to grab lunch or dinner because this year we have a new barbecue cook off for all to enjoy. Get a full barbecue meal of beef brisket, ribs, chicken, potato salad, drinks and of course beans to eat at the festival for $10. Be sure to purchase a delicious BBQ take home meal or two to enjoy later when you leave. There will be 11 cooking stations preparing meat for your scrumptious meal. There are also countless other food vendors to choose from, offering icy cold drinks and sweet desserts for your enjoyment!  The 40th Annual Oatmeal Festival will host a street dance, featuring local artists, Jarrod Birmingham and Anson Carter. Throw on your dancing shoes and come out and support these great local artists and have a good time with friends, family and neighbors during this annual celebration. $10 cover charge at the door. Some fun activities and food vendors from during the day activities will also be there. The Co-Ed Softball Tournament in Bertram will be held Saturday, Aug. 19. Several of Bertram's downtown streets will be closed to accommodate runners, skits, parades, music, vendors, games, and other fun and unusual activities. These make up the 40th Annual Oatmeal Festival. All of this, in addition to the growing number of out of town guests that this event attracts, is expected to fill downtown Bertram. Local area residents support this event, because the two-day party has a truly noble purpose: Festival funds raised go to support scholarship opportunities for high school students, and to support other activities that help strengthen local community. The amount raised has increased since the inception of this annual program. Thank you to all participants, vendors and sponsors for your support!

Many local business actively support the mission of this festival through sponsorship and participation. They consider it a great opportunity to reinvest in their community. Additionally, the air-condition Historic Globe Theater has a full day of events planned. Organizers insist that this annual festival would not be possible without full community involvement, vendors, sponsors and committed volunteers, who welcome such support.
