February 23, 1927 — January 20, 2018

William “Bill” Desmond Johnson, 90, of Old River-Winfree, Texas and formerly of Burnet, Texas, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, in Baytown, Texas. He was born on Feb. 23, 1927, in Huntsville, Texas, to Johnie and Thelma Johnson. Bill attended LaPorte High School before taking vocational electrical classes at the University of Houston. He proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Army, from 1945 to 1946.

In his younger years, Bill worked for San Jacinto Creamery on South Main Street in Baytown, delivering milk to many in the Liberty County area. He also worked as an electrician for Houston Lighting and Power. But for most of his years, he was a welding superintendent for MW Kellogg (Flour Daniel).

Bill once served as Assistant Fire Cheif of the East Lake/Buchannan Fire Department, a licensed rehabilitator of wildlife for Texas Parks and Wildlife and a 32nd degree Mason. He and the love of his life, Judy, had traveled to over 50 countries. Bill enjoyed tinkering with things to figure them out and volunteering in his community to help keep the roads maintained. But most of all, he loved to support Judy in everything that she wanted to do.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 73 years, Julia “Judy” Johnson; and his sister Madelyn Hayes. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his sons Bill Johnson Jr. and wife Cynthia and Dennis Johnson and wife Becky; four grandsons; three granddaughters; twelve great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; one great great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews; and a host of relatives, friends and his beloved pets Honey and Rusty.

A visitation with the family was held Thursday, Jan. 25, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St., Dayton, Texas, with funeral services following and interment in Palms Memorial Park Cemetery.
