Ernest Calvin Newton peacefully passed away Wednesday morning, May 2, 2018, at the age of 96, surrounded by his loving family.

The funeral service was held at Jenkins Funeral Home in Burnet with interment following at Post Mountain Cemetery.

Ernest was born on March 15, 1922, in Tomega (northwest of Bertram). He graduated from Burnet High School in 1940. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1943, was in the 8th Air Focre until 1946. Ernest and Audrey were married in Luton, Bedfordshire, England and later traveled to the United States to make their home and family in Burnet. He first worked at the Burnet Lumber Company, then worked at LCRA as an Engineer Draftsman and Office Engineer. From there he was employed for 35 years by the Texas Highway Department as an Engineer Draftsman and retired in 1985. He was a wonderful husband, daddy and grandfather. To his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he was known as “Pa-Pa”. Ernest was a loving, kind and caring father who was always there for family and others. He loved working with his hands and meeting new people. Photography was his hobby. We love you and we will miss you greatly.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Douglas Newton; his wife, Audrey wo whom he was married to for 70 years.

He is survived by his four children, Jeanette (Jeanie) Cemper of Cedar Park, Terry Newton and wife Pat of Lago Vista, Kim Newton and wife Luanne of Burnet, Pam Jaeger of Austin; three grandchildren, Monica Banks, Scott Bird, and Alan Newton; three great grandchildren, Garrett Banks, Travis and Jackson Bird.

The family wished to express their deepest appreciation to those who gave their loving care to him, Rachel Anthony, Karen Fralin and Veronica Guevara.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The First Baptist Church of Burnet Building Fund or Texas Parks and Wildlife for Native Wildlife & Endangered Species.
