Burnet County Fair set to party from June 8-9

The Burnet County Area Fair is returning this Friday, June 8th and Saturday, June 9th at the Burnet Community Center, located at 401 East Jackson Street. Friday is the official opening of the fair beginning with the opening ceremonies at 10 am. The Texas sons of the American Revolution will again be presenting the nation's colors and the Hill Country Blenders will be entertaining the audience with their marvelous singing of patriotic songs. The history of the Burnet County fair will be given by Rachel Bryson.

Early Registration starts on Wed., June 6 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm and regular registration will be on Thurs., June 7, from 9:00 am to 12 noon. At this time the fair will close for the judging of the exhibits.

The Fair will be open to the public Friday from 10 a.m. to 7:00 pm. Exhibits will occur throughout the day, including the Country Store, a beekeeping demonstration by the Temple Bee Keeper Association and other presentations from various organizations.

FCH Extension Agent Linda Wells will provide a cooking demonstration at 4:00 pm at the Hill Country Community Foundation Building across the street from the Community Center. At 5:00 p.m. Cary Headrick and Friends from Top Hand Ministries will be playing music until the award ceremony begins.

Something new that Fair representatives are excited to present to the public is the People’s Choice Award. All visitors who come to the fair will be given three ballots to vote on their favorite entries, including one vote for the Junior Youth, one vote for Senior Youth and one vote for an Adult entry. The winning exhibit with the most votes will be recognized at the awards ceremony starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Foundation Building. Other awards that will be presented are the Best of Division, Sweepstakes and several other individual awards. At this time the winners' pictures will be taken. All winners will be notified by their phone number listed on their entry form.

The 4-H Fashion Review is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Hill Country Community Foundation Building.

On Sat., June 9, the Fair will open to the public at 9:00 a.m. There will be vendors in the parking lot with a large variety of things to look at and maybe even purchase. Demonstrations will continue inside, and the Country Store will be open and the Silent Auction will continue with new items. A crowd favorite is the Lake Area Rods and Classics open car show. Be sure to look at the amazing and beautiful cars and vote for your favorite car. Music for Saturday will be provided by the Algerita Hill Band from 11 a.m to 2:00 pm. These young, self-taught Blue Grass musicians are very talented and play fantastic music.

The Burnet County Area 4-H is holding their annual Barbecue fundraiser in the Hill Country Community Foundation Building from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. Tickets are $ 10.00 each and can be purchased before Saturday from any 4-H member or from the Extension Office, located at 607 N. Vandeveer St. Tickets will also be available at the door the day of the barbecue.

Adults and children alike are always excited to hear and see the Hill Country Flyer pulling into the station. At 1:30 p.m the Burnet Gunfighters will be performing at Old Town, just south of the Burnet Community Center.

At 4:00 p.m., the 2018 Burnet County Area Fair closes to the public to prepare for the exhibitors to pick up their entries in the Burnet Community Center. Entries may be picked up from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. All silent auction winners are asked to be sure to pick up the item(s) which you won the bid on at this same time.

The Burnet County Area Fair Committee wishes to thank all our many advertisers and supporters who so generously support the fair. Without these businesses and individuals it would be hard for the Burnet County Area Fair to continue to “keep this a free family fun event”.
