At a special meeting held Tuesday, Sept. 4, the Burnet CISD Board of Trustees voted to extend Superintendent Keith McBurnett's contract through June 30, 2021.

Since becoming the Superintendent on March 27, 2012, McBurnett has guided BCISD down a path towards readying its students for the future, focusing on their safety and first-class education as top priorities.

For the past six years, McBurnett has brought many values to BCISD, and the campuses have begun “Crafting the Future” of its students, seeing the implementation of multiple innovative courses such as Mandarin Chinese, Geometry in Construction, Culinary Arts, and Project Lead the Way Pre-Engineering, which ready students for college or the workforce before they graduate high school.

School resource officers have also been placed at every BCISD campus, as well as additional safety measures to ensure the safety of students and educators.

BCISD has achieved many goals under McBurnett's leadership, including the development of a Three-Year Strategic Plan; placement on the College Board seventh annual AP District Honor Roll; recognition of BMS as a College Board Springboard ELA National Demonstration School; being awarded the Crystal Commendation TSPRA Award for their Join the Journey Drug Prevention Program; and a partnership between Bluebonnet Trails Community Services to create a drug counseling center at BCISD.

The most recent accomplishment in BCISD is the passing of a Tax Ratification Election, lowering the district's tax rate by two cents and generating an additional $600,000 in revenue to use towards the continued growth of the district and its retention of teachers, safety measures, and innovative courses.
