The Lady Bullpup basketball teams added more wins to their records last week with victories over Salado. The seventh-grade A team won, 33-13; the eighth-grade B team won 21-20; and the eighth-grade A team won 39-18. A report for the seventh-grade B team was not available as of presstime.

Seventh-grade A

The seventh-grade A team took an early lead over Salado and never looked back eventually winning the contest, 33-13. “The girls did a good job offensively and kept Salado from getting second opportunities by crashing the board,” said coach Marquina Hicks.

MaeSyn Gay was the leading scorer with 18 points. She was followed by Reagan Shipley, nine; Molly McPherson, two; Kenna Davis, two; and Zaria Solis, two.

Eighth-grade B

The eighth-grade B game was an exciting contest between two closely matched teams. The game was tied 8-8 after one, 12-12 at the half, and 16-16 after three. With under two minutes left in the contest Burnet had a 20-18 lead when a Lady Pup player unfortunately got turned around and made a game tying shot for Salado, 20-20. Burnet took possession and soon made a basket to regain the lead 22-20 with about five seconds left to play. Salado drove down court and was fouled on a three-point attempt just before time ran out giving them one last opportunity. She made the first shot but missed the next two allowing Burnet to maintain their lead and take the game, 22-21.

Chloe Langbein was the leading scorer with eight points. She was followed by Riley Tippit, six; Baylee Warwick, four; Kyandra Fuentes, two; and Emma Corona, two.

Eighth-grade A

The eighth-grade A girls came out dominate against Salado and took a 19-2 lead after just one quarter of play. They outscored Salado 8-6 in the second and 10-5 in the third. Coach Hicks slowed her girls down in the fourth but Burnet still earned a big win, 39-18. “The girls did a great job with team defense, as well as rebounding and transitioning on both ends of the floor,” said Coach Hicks.

Grace Gates was the leading scorer with 13 points. She was followed by Abigail Aguillon, 10; Addie Hernandez, eight; Lainey Rye, six; and Christina Graves, two.
