The BCISD Join the Journey Safe and Drug Free Wellness Fair will return to Burnet Thursday, Feb. 7 at Burnet Middle School.

Join the Journey, a program established in 2013 by BCISD officials and Burnet resident Janet Christiansen, was designed to help students cope with and resist drug issues among themselves and their peers after Christiansen's 21-year-old son, Caleb, passed away due to a drug overdose in 2011.

Since its implementation, BCISD has made many efforts to promote health and safety among its students by hiring school resource officers among every campus in the district, executing random drug tests, and partnering with Bluebonnet Trails Community Services to provide counseling for students who are found to test positive for drugs.
The Safe and Drug Free Wellness Fair is entering its sixth run in BCISD as community members team up to provide information on health and safety while combatting drugs and protecting BCISD's students and families from their negative effects.

The public is invited to join BCISD representatives and businesses from the community in promoting healthy habits and a drug free environment at the Wellness Fair, which is free to the public.

Guests may receive health screenings, learn about drug and alcohol abuse and recovery, and receive information on health and wellness. Guests are encouraged to participate in activities guaranteed to be fun for all ages, students and parents alike. Burnet Fire Department, Police Department and EMS will provide safety demonstrations, and individuals will have dozens of opportunities to build relationships with various businesses and non-profit organizations all working towards the common goal of protecting the district's students and families.

The Join the Journey Safe and Drug Free Wellness Fair will take place Thursday, Feb. 7 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Burnet Middle School, 1401 North Main Street, Burnet.
