On Friday April 26, the Jerry House Youth Golf Program at Delaware Springs Golf Course was officially started. The kickoff was held at the golf course’s pavilion between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. More than 60 people met the House family and enjoyed a beautiful Texas spring afternoon. The club house grill served a hotdog meal to all, while paperwork was completed. Twenty kids were enrolled into the program and each was given a golf towel embroidered with the program logo. There are still program spaces available. Please contact Doug Fipps at the golf course (512-756-8471) for more information.

Funded by the Jerry House Youth Golf Association, this program hopes to introduce golf to Burnet area kids 6-18 years old. Currently, each participant will be provided a week of golf lessons this summer, a golf towel, a golf shirt and a hat. Properly sized golf clubs will be provided to each one if needed. Participants will be schooled in golf fundamentals along with golf course etiquette. In the fall, the Association will sponsor a fundraising golf tournament where the participants can show off their newly honed skills. Tournament information will be provided at a later date.

Understanding that the Burnet school system has middle school and high school teams for both girls and boys, this program hopes to encourage more kids to join the school golf teams. In cooperation with Delaware Springs Junior Golf program, participants may also have other golfing opportunities. By beginning at a younger age, kids that enjoy the sport have time to develop their game.

Jerry House was a long time golfer and resident of Delaware Springs. He loved the challenges of golf and understood the values taught by the game. He introduced golf to both of his grandsons - providing lessons and taking them out on the course with him each summer. Upon his passing, the family decided to expand past grandsons and reach out to the youth of this community.

The Jerry House Youth Golf Association is an established 501c3. Anyone that wishes to support the golfing youth of our area may contact Willetta House at 512-715-9523 or send their donation to:
