Boy Scout troop gives back

Savanna Gregg/Burnet Bulletin

Burnet's Boy Scout Troop 282 recently constructed a flag retirement box at the request of Burnet County Sheriff Calvin Boyd, giving the troop the opportunity to be a part of a special tradition. Once the box is full, members of Troop 282 will retrieve the flags, and they will burn them at a special flag retirement ceremony. Pieces of the flags, such as the grommets, will be salvaged and repurposed into keepsakes for the Boy Scouts to treasure the memory of the flags. The public is invited to participate in the tradition by bringing their old American and Texas flags to the Burnet County Sheriff's Office at 1601 East Polk Street, Burnet, in order for them to be properly retired.
