Richard (Ricky) Anthony Espinosa

April 4, 1986 — October 8, 2019

With deepest sorrow, we announce that Richard Anthony Espinosa (Ricky), beloved grandson, son, brother, father, family member and friend passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019. Ricky was 33 years old born April 4, 1986 in Austin, Texas.

Ricky was an amazing young man. He lived in Johnson City for most of his childhood graduating from LBJ High School in 2005. Growing up Ricky loved animals; there was never a furry friend Ricky didn't try to bring home. Ricky loved funny movies, roller blading, video games, hanging out with friends, family and getting into mischief. Ricky didn't change much through the years.

Ricky had a special love for music and loved to play bass; he even worked really hard to relearn how to play after losing two fingers in an accident at work. After graduation, Ricky would find his wings and fly traveling and exploring life until he would settle down in North Dakota where he would have what he felt was his greatest achievement in life: his son, James Espinosa. Ricky loved being a dad.

Ricky was an amazing artist. If he could picture it in his mind, he could draw it. This lead him to a love for tattoos, giving them and getting them. He was so creative – music, drawing, welding, spray paint art and much more. Art was always his calling.

Those who knew Ricky knew what a huge heart he had; he never meet a stranger. He had a laugh that was infectious and could always make you smile. He loved and was loved beyond measures.

Ricky is preceded in death by two of the most important people in his childhood, his maternal grandparents, Louis and Joyce DeFelice. Ricky is also preceded in death by three people he called grandparents, Wayne Hair, and Linda and Alan McCulloch. We can not forget his childhood pets: a set of poodles, Chewy and Little Bit, who were part of the family for over 15 years.

Ricky is survived by his parents, Tina DeFelice of New Mexico; Dennis and Teresa Phillips of Franklin, Texas; Granny, Dorothy Hair, also of Franklin; siblings, sister Angel and husband Geronimo Mitchell and their daughter Gemma Sloane Mitchell all of Burnet, Texas, sister, Ashley Phillips and fiancé Cliff Rowh of Bryan, Texas, sister, Lindsey Phillips of Austin, Texas, brother Alan Phillips and fiancée Alexandria Gonzales of Austin, Texas; aunts and uncles, Louis A. Jr. and Kim DeFelice, Allen, Victor, Matthew, Tracy, Timothy and Luke DeFelice; as well as many other loving cousins, friends and family and furry friends.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Richard Anthony Espinosa (Ricky) is Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at The Home Church with Pastor Greg Steele officiating, 405 North US Highway 281 Johnson City, Texas.
