Playoff time for the Bulldogs

BY WAYNE CRAIG/BURNET BULLETIN

The varsity Bulldog baseball team finished out regular season play with a 6-2 win over the visiting Lampasas Badgers last Tuesday night. That victory brought Burnet’s overall record to 11-11, 5-5 in district 25-4A play, which had them in a third place tie with Liberty Hill, also at 5-5.

Salado and Taylor led the way in the district both finishing with 9-1 records. Llano and Lampasas each missed the playoffs finishing 1-9.

Tuesday night’s game remained scoreless through two and a half innings of play. Tyler Ford scored the Bulldog’s first run on a Rowdy Holmes RBI.

After holding the Badgers scoreless again in the top of the fourth Burnet really went to work.

Following a Colton Barksdale single Koby Edwards stepped to the plate hitting a RBI double that plated Barksdale. Steven Gallardo reached base on a Badger error and Edwards crossed home on that play for another Bulldog run.

Dawgs dominate Hawks

BY WAYNE CRAIG/BURNET BULLETIN

The varsity Bulldog baseball team only chalked-up one more hit than the visiting Hawks last week, 9-8, but Team Green completely dominated when it came to the score beating Canyon Lake, 10-4. Neither team played error-free ball but it was Canyon Lake that struggled the most with eight errors in the game.

The Bulldogs hit well in the bottom of the first scoring two runs off two doubles. Burnet also scored two runs in the second inning to take an early 4-2 lead. The second inning scoring was led by a RBI single hit by Rowdy Holmes that plated Reid Dalrymple.

Canyon Lake moved a little closer with one run scored in the top of the third making it 4-3 Burnet.

Burnet once again posted two runs in the bottom of the fourth and that offense was kicked-off by a Peyton Utsey triple that scored Dalrymple.

A little pitch and catch

A little pitch and catch: The Lady Bulldog softball team moved to 4-0 after another outstanding night of pitching. Burnet’s Makenzie Carpenter, pictured above right, was almost untouchable in a 3-1 win over Salado. For most of the game it was pitch and catch between Carpenter and her catcher Kayla Glover, pictured above left. In seven innings Carpenter struck out 14 and technically collected her second no-no as the only scorer reached base on an error. TheLady Dawgs as a team have been impressive so far and were 4-0 as of presstime
