Michael Earl Stedman

October 29, 1947 — August 9, 2019

Michael Earl Stedman, born Oct. 29, 1947 in Dallas, Texas, passed away surrounded by his wife and children on Friday afternoon Aug. 9, 2019 at the age of 71.

Mike grew up in Sweeny, Texas where he met his wife of 51 years, Linda Stedman. After high school he volunteered to serve his country by joining the Navy serving on combat deployments to Vietnam.

After returning home, Mike’s calling to service eventually led to a life-long law enforcement career. Mike’s drive to serve the community in any way led him to also certify as an EMT and later help establish the Burnet County Dive Team where he received an international rescue award.

James Hartwell Kennedy (Jim)

October 12, 1942 — July 23, 2019

James Hartwell Kennedy (Jim) passed away on the evening of Tuesday, July 23, 2019. Jim was born in Evansville, Indiana on Oct. 12, 1942 and moved to Angleton, Texas at the age of 5. He graduated from Angleton High School in 1962.

Jim began his career with the Texas Highway Department in 1964 as a Lab Technician then became a Manager of Atec Laboratory in Freeport, Texas in 1978, and then worked at Houston Shell and Concrete from 1980 through April of 1998.

In all he had 19 years of experience in the ready-mix concrete industry with responsibilities ranging from sales, credit, inventory, and dispatching.

Billie Jane (Ray) Sprott

February 2, 1928 — July 30, 2019

Billie Jane (Ray) Sprott passed away July 30, 2019.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 9, 2019 at the Presbyterian Church of Salado, 105 Salado Plaza Drive, Salado Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Billie Jane’s memory to your local Hospice.

She was born Feb. 2, 1928 to Joel Arbry Ray and Ruby (Dockery) Ray of Bell County, Texas. She is preceded in death by husband, Billy Mack Sprott; sister, LaJaun Ray; and brothers, Jim, D.L. (Dee Dee), Jack, and Durwood (Mitts) Ray all from Bell County, Texas.

Billie Jane was a nurse during the 1950s and 1960s and was always a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Throughout her years, her family was her major interest, and she loved to cook for special family gatherings. She taught youth Sunday school classes for over 30 years and willingly acknowledged her love of God and Christ.

Janie Glaspy Price

September 19, 1930 – July 29, 2019

Janie Glaspy Price, 88, went to be with Jesus on July 29, 2019. 

She was born on Sept. 19, 1930 to John R. and Bertie Williams Glaspy in Bertram, Texas. She married James Glen Price on Oct. 1, 1949. 

Family was very important to her and she took every opportunity to spend time with them. She loved working at her job and did not retire until she was age 80. 

She was very involved with the Bertram Church of Christ. Her involvement included: World Bible School, the Joy Bus and Prison ministries and she was a Bible Class Teacher for many years. 

Other hobbies she enjoyed were gardening, quilting and crocheting, sewing for her grandchildren, ceramics, and building/remodeling houses with her husband. She also enjoyed camping and traveling with her family. 

Janie is preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Ray, Mike, and Jimmy.

Devoted husband, father, grandfather, and servant of Christ, Camm Carrington Lary Jr., went home to the Lord on July 25, 2019. In everything he did, Camm Jr. was steadfast, reliable, earnest, and true.

Known to friends and family as “Camm Jr.,” he is survived by his wife, Louise; his son, Camm “Trey” Lary, III and wife Wendy; his daughter, Christina Davis and husband Chris; and his grandchildren, Camm IV and Grace Lary, and Harry and Archer Davis. He is predeceased by his parents, Christine and Camm Lary, Sr.; and his brother, Mike Lary. He is loved by his first cousins, Terry, Christy, Phil, Mel, and the late Patsy.

Jerry D. Christian

March 7, 1944 — July 28, 2019

Jerry D. Christian, age 75, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2019 at his home in Burnet, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry was born in San Saba County on March 7, 1944. He graduated from Bertram High School in 1962. He made his residence in Burnet, Texas, where he was the owner of Lakeland Plumbing for many years and a faithful member of the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn of 55 years; daughter and son-in-law, Dana & Karl Reich; daughter, Amy Bodkins; son and daughter-in-law, Eric & Barbara Christian; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A register book is available at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet for friends and family to leave their condolences.

Thomas Gayle Myers

July 21, 1931 — July 25, 2019

Thomas Gayle Myers, 88, of Liberty Hill, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2019.

Tommy was born on July 21, 1931 to Leslie and Ilyne (Reed) Myers in Liberty Hill. After graduating high school, Tommy joined the navy. When he returned home from the navy, Tommy began his life long career in insurance. After over 30 years in the insurance business, he retired from USF&G. He enjoyed the simple things in life – being with his family and friends, traveling, hunting, fishing and spending time with long time friend Eleanor Brown. Tommy is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by daughter, Pamela Ford; and granddaughter, Casey Marcuse and her husband Doug Edington of Liberty Hill; and Marcia Smith of Austin.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Kindred Hospice and Bertram Nursing and Rehab.

Steven Lee Goodmon, age 84, passed away July 23, 2019 at his home in Burnet, Texas, following a diagnosis of metastasized esophageal cancer on July 5.

Steve was born in Arrowsmith, Illinois on March 1, 1935 to the late Marvin and Helen Glynn Goodmon. He lived in Weldon, Illinois and graduated from Deland-Weldon High School in 1953. He attended the University of Illinois in Champaign before joining the US Air Force, where he learned his profession of Air Traffic Control from which he retired in 1989. He was also involved in distributing, publishing and writing Christian books while living in Indianola, Iowa.

Darvis Andrew Deskins

January 21, 1935 — July 2, 2019

Darvis Andrew Deskins was born January 21, 1935, in Caddo Mills, Texas, to Frank and Thelma Deskins. He was the youngest of five siblings, who preceded him in death.

Darv graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Science in business administration. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He worked for several companies that led to relocations from Texas to California, back to Texas, then to Michigan, and finally to retire in Meadowlakes, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Glenna, of 61 years; daughter and son-in-law, Allison and David Sava; son, Scott and wife Laura Deskins; four grandsons, Scott Deskins Jr. and wife Mary Catherine, Matthew, William, and Ben; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Charlie, who was Darv's “best buddy.”

Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Duggan Reed McLain McDonald, 86, passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 17, 2019.

She is survived by her youngest sister, Charlene Benton, of Irving, Texas; children, Mike and Dottie Reed of Kingsland, Texas, and Sherry and Ronnie Priddy of Edmund, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Mike and Effie Reed of Lubbock, Texas, Katie Ramsey of Round Rock, Texas, Edgar and Corrie Reed of Abilene, Texas, Jennifer and Jeff Nichols of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Kyle and Linden Priddy of Edmund, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Gabby, Logan, Jacob, Ethan, Kylin, Jordan, Cade, Fallon and Lizze; as well as many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

Beth was a wonderful woman that was loved by many, will be greatly missed, and will always be cherished. Known by most as Granny Beth, she was a loving and amazing wife, mom, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
