Keeping the hardware at home

Burnet’s JV Green softball team added four more victories to their record in route to a tournament championship. In pool play the girls tied Copperas Cove, 4-4 in two innings; before shutting out Jarrell, 8-0 and destroying Wimberley, 16-1 also in two innings.

Lady Dawgs place nine on 25-4A All District list

The Lady Bulldog basketball team landed nine players on the 2014-15 District 25-4A All District list. That was more than any other school placed on the list. Burnet senior Riley Scott made the MVP list as the district’s most valuable offensive player.

Vajgrt and Craig qualify for State Meet

Burnet senior powerlifter Desiree Vajgrt and freshman lifter Jayci Craig are state bound after outstanding lifts at regionals last week. Burnet sent three lifters to the regional meet, Vajgrt, Craig, and junior lifter Victoria Bell. There they competed against the top 10 lifters from Region II for a chance at state.

Burnet teams earn PAC tournament championships

Two Burnet sixth grade basketball teams recently won a PAC tournament in Cedar Park. Both teams brought home their first place finishes after defeating all teams they faced from the Austin and San Antonio areas

Early message sent by Lady Dawgs

The 2015 varsity Lady Bulldog softball team means business. The girls rolled off six more impressive games last week to keep their undefeated season intact. Burnet hosted Wimberley last Tuesday to kickoff their week. The Lady Dawgs defeated the Texans 7-1 moving their record to 3-0. Makenzie Carpenter pitched the seven inning game recording 16 strikeouts, one walk, and two hits.

Dawgs still hungry despite Bi-District loss

If you came to Mustang gym last Tuesday night in hopes to see a great game you more than got your money’s worth in a 61-34 Burnet loss. The Bi-District match-up between Burnet and Wimberley was a battle from the jump and at no point in the game did either team enjoy a comfortable lead. Wimberley entered the contest a much more experienced team. They were the 26-4A co-district champs and boasted a 20-8 overall record. They also had the luxury of six seniors on the team, but the court is no place for excuses and the Dawgs offered none.

Dawgs finish-up versus Llano’s Jackets

The freshmen and JV Bulldog basketball teams played their final games of the 2014- 15 season last Tuesday night at Bulldog gym versus Llano’s Yellowjackets. Both turned out to be great games with the JV boys claiming victory, 50-46; while the freshman boys almost pulled out the win, 46-42.

Lady Dawgs win Bi-District Championship

The Lady Bulldog basketball team entered post season play last week with a Bi-District game on Tuesday against Navarro. Burnet took to the courts as the fourth place representative out of District 25-4A and Navarro was the District Champ from 26-4A. Burnet really struggled in the first period of play against the Lady Panthers. Micayla Light and Valerie Solis each hit one bucket and that was the extent of Burnet’s scoring in the first eight minutes of play. Navarro posted 12 to take a 12-4 lead.

Romero state bound

The Burnet Water Dawg swim team and Bulldog senior diver, Angel Romero recently competed at the 5A and under
Regional Meet. The Bulldogs were very well represented with Keirstin Pratt, Meghan Hoefling, Samantha Stephens and Chelsea Warden competing on the girls side, while Joseph Hugunin, Angel Romero, Cole Kinsey, and Dustin Barnett swam on the boys side.
