Dawgs marching through Region

By Wayne Craig

Oh what a night it was for all in attendance at last Friday’s re-match between the Burnet Bulldogs and Waco Robinson Rockets. There were some frustrations early as an overwhelming crowd took turns filing into the only gate McLane Stadium had open, and it was noticed that Robinson was sold pregame tickets, unlike Burnet.

Lady Dawgs rope the Texans

By Wayne Craig

The Lady Bulldogs played in their third games of the season last Tuesday night in Wimberley. The Lady Texans are no slouch when it comes to girls basketball but Burnet did a great job controlling the pace and they brought home three wins.

Bulldogs dethrone King, 56-27

By Wayne Craig

Friday night the Burnet Bulldogs traveled to San Antonio and took the bull by the horns so to speak as they branded the King Brahmas with a blistering 56-27 victory. Local weather had rain falling by the buckets leading up to kickoff but clouds made a timely parting and it was on.

Lady Dawgs lace up for basketball

By Wayne Craig

Basketball season is here and the Lady Bulldog teams expressed their eagerness to play with a combined 5-1 record in their openers last week. The varsity girls dominated Comanche in game one with a 52-25 victory; but suffered a close loss to Brownwood on Saturday, 48-43. Head coach Doug Messer has good numbers throughout the program this year with over 20 in the freshman group, and 13 girls on each of the JV and varsity squads.

Offense prevails over Badgers, 59-35; Dawgs claim second place

By Wayne Craig

Friday night was a bitter- sweet night for many Bulldog seniors and their parents, but while it was the seniors last game at Bulldog field Burnet got the win and hopefully there is lots more football to be played. It was an offensive evening for sure as the teams exploded for 94 total points. The Bulldogs showed little resistance to the Badger’s running game that gouged the Dawg defense for 472 total yards, 424 rushing.

Bullock takes fifth at state

By Wayne Craig

It was a great day to be a Bulldog at Saturday’s State cross country meet in Round Rock. The seven Bulldog runners in attendance pushed themselves to the limit and beyond and brought home some impressive finishes for their top-notch efforts. As a team Burnet’s girls placed fifth overall in state out of 16 teams in attendance. This is a huge accomplishment for the girls who placed fourth last week in the region.

Lady Dawgs’ season ends with tough bi-district loss

By Wayne Craig

The Lady Bulldog volleyball team traveled to Boerne last Tuesday and entered the playoffs with a bi-district match against Navarro. The girl’s season came to a close a little sooner than they had hoped after Burnet fell short in four games 26-24, 25- 17, 25-22, and 25-6. It was a spirited match in a small gym and each team’s fans cheer loud and proud making for a unique atmosphere. Burnet responded well in the first set and took a nice 8-3 lead before the Navarro girls came back to tie it up at 12. Burnet only trailed once in the first set 21-23, but stayed with it and picked up the win in extra points, 26-24.

Halloween no treat for the Dawgs

By Wayne Craig

The season is far from over for the Burnet Bulldogs, but last Friday’s 33-28 loss to Waco La Vega put a bit of a kink in the race for the district championship. It was a strange Halloween night for all in District 13- 4A with Gatesville defeating Waco Robinson, Lampasas knocking off China Spring and Burnet falling to La Vega.
