‘They don’t call him Ed Win for nothing’

Funeral services for Jesse Edwin Abernathy, who was the head coach at Burnet High School for 15 years and took his Bulldogs team to the state championship game in 1992, will be Saturday in Port Lavaca. Abernathy died Saturday. Abernathy’s death brought an outpouring of tributes from former players and fellow coaches, including Pastor Rodney McGee of the Hill Country Fellowship Church in Burnet, who will conduct the funeral services.

Saying good-bye to a Bulldog legend

It didn’t take long for sad news to spread this past weekend. Learning the news of the passing of coach Jesse Edwin Abernathy brought tears to many, but just the sound of his name brought back a flood of great memories. Coach Ab is what most called him, and he truly was a special man. Through his journey of coaching he touched so many lives and helped turn a multitude of boys into fine young men.
