Bulldogs softball finishes with two district wins, 6-23 mark

Burnet junior Alex Barry was a triple threat player for the Lady Dawgs in their final game of the 2017 season on Friday night. With two swings of the bat against the visiting Leander Glenn Lady Grizzlies Barry advanced around the bases to third with one official triple and another single that put her on third after an error. She also scored two runs for Burnet, had a RBI and did a fantastic job at first base all on her 17 birthday.

Burnet add two big victories

Burnet senior Rowdy Holmes charges an infield hit and smoothly scoops the ball and throws out a Leander Glenn runner at first base. The Bulldogs won each of their two games last week and Holmes played a key role in both victories. A Holmes sacrifice fly in the final inning of play against Lampasas broke a 3-3 tie and had Burnet winning the contest 4-3. He also hit one of Burnet’s five singles against Glenn.

BMS girls track results

The BMS Lady Bullpup track teams recently participated in the 2017 district meet. Burnet’s girls did very well and their coaches have been pleased with their performances.
“Just about all the seventh and eighth-graders improved their times in running events and distances in field events. We are very proud of their hard work and dedication,” said coach Rachyl Griffin.
The seventh-grade girls scored 99 points and took third place as a team. The eighth-grade girls scored 46 points and took fifth place overall.

BMS boys track results

On Friday, April 7 the BMS track teams hosted the middle school district meet.
“We had a great track season this year,” said boys head coach Lance Jones.
“We saw consistent improvement from our athletes throughout the entire season. We are extremely proud of all our athletes and we would like to thank everyone who came out and supported them this season,” added Jones.
The eighth-grade boys team captured an overall team district championship. The seventh-grade team placed fourth overall.

Golf Team takes fifth at district

The Lady Bulldog golf team competed at their final event of the year which was the 2017 District Meet hosted by Llano. Burnet’s four member team placed fifth overall as a team. Their day one total was 464, followed by a two day total of 470.
Individually Caitlynne Graves led the way for the Lady Dawgs. Graves shot a 90 in the opening round, and posted a 99 during day two competition for a two day total of 189.
Malory Alvarez posted a 95 on day one and backed that up with a day two 101 for a 196 total.
Ashley Hogan shot a 132 followed by a 130 for her two-day total, 262.
Jordan Langford posted a 147 on day one and improved that to a 140 on day two for a 287 total.

Track team rolls into regional meet

Senior Bulldog athlete Caelin Graves accepts congratulations from his track coach Justin Marcellus at the conclusion of triple jump competition. Graves, who competed at the Area meet on Wednesday in Marble Falls, earned two gold medals and extended his season to the upcoming Regional Meet. He earned a first place finish in both the high jump and triple jump.

All Star-MVP

Burnet senior Caelin Graves recently earned an MVP award that included a $500 scholarship for his performance during the Chicken Express All-Star game that was held in Kerrville. Graves, along with teammate Drew Kiser and Lady Bulldog senior Izzy Ramon were selected to play in the All-Star game. All three student athletes did a great job representing the Bulldogs and their hometown.

District meet on deck for Bulldogs

Burnet junior Tyler Torres gives it all he’s got in a tight race with a Fredericksburg runner during competition on Thursday in Llano. The Dawgs will test their talents next Tuesday-Wednesday at the 19-4A district race which is being hosted by Liberty Hill.

By Wayne Craig Bulletin Sports The Bulldog track teams have been hard at work and their talents will soon be tested on the district stage. The 19-4A track meet will be hosted by Liberty Hill on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 11-12. Seven teams will be in attendance including Burnet, Liberty Hill, Llano, Salado, Taylor, Lampasas, and Leander Glenn. The Bulldog ran in their final pre-district races on Thursday in Llano. Results from that meet were not yet available as of presstime. At the recent Marble Falls track meet, which was a very large meet that hosted over 12 schools and 500 athletes, Burnet had four Bulldog athletes on the boys side of competition to place in the top three. Ian Carter took first in the 110 high hurdles and also collected a gold medal in the long jump. Joel Holland added another gold to his growing collection with a first place finish in the high jump. Also at the varsity level Harrison Stewart took third in the pole vault.

Lady Pups improve at tough Texan meet

By Wayne Craig Bulletin Sports On Friday, March 24 the Lady Bullpup track teams competed at the tough Wimberley Texan Invitational. “Although the girls didn’t place in as many events, we saw lots of improved times. The tough competition at the meet allowed the girls to push themselves harder than previous meets and it helped prepare them for district,” said coach Rachyl Griffin. Individual results were as follows- Seventh-grade 100 M Dash: Jaycee Morris, fourth, 14.66. 200 M Dash: Ashlyn Calhoun, third, 30.06. 400 M Dash: Kayla Gillaspie, second, 1:07.66; and Grace Tyler, third, 1:08.28. 800 M Run: Calhoun, second, 2:41.83. 1600 M Run: Emma Gonzalez, fifth, 6:31.37. 2400 M Run: Maria Leon, fourth, 10:28.22. 400 M Relay: Burnet, third, Hailey Tindell, Morris, Tyler, and Gillaspie, 56.23. 1600 M Relay: Burnet, first, Tyler, Calhoun, Morris, and Gillaspie, 4:34.42. Shot Put: Rylea Whitus, fourth, 30’. Triple Jump: Calhoun, fifth, 28’10.
