Drought + high temps + wind = burn ban

  • In the late morning of Friday, July 10, a house fire was reported at 150 East North Street. The Bertram Volunteer Fire Department responded swiftly and had the fire contained in short order. Fire Chief Bobby Huffstuttler reports that, while the wooden structure wasn’t a total loss, there was structural damage as well as heat and smoke damage throughout. The homeowners were not present, and no firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Marcie Masterson

Body

The Burnet County Commissioners Court voted to place the county under a burn ban on Friday, July 10. It will stay in effect until further notice. Temperatures will hover around 100 for the next few days and drop to the mid to high 90s next week. Unfortunately there is no rain in sight.

City Hall

The City Hall front office is once again closed due to COVID. You may pay your water bills via the drop box to the left of the front doors.

Library News

While Summer Reading is over, Book Bingo is ongoing for both adults and children. Go by the library and pick up a Book Bingo Grid form, which is complete with rules. Here’s how it works: read a book for each square on your grid; when you have made a “bingo”, completing a row, column or diagonal, bring your form to the library for a prize. Additionally, when you make a “blackout” on your form, you’ll earn a free ice cream scoop coupon from Bertram Blends and Boutique!

Bulk Trash

This year’s Bulk Trash days are July 18-19. It will be held at the Bertram Sewer Plant, 2110 W Highway 29. It will be first-come-first-served. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 18 and noon to 4 p.m. on July 19. You must present your water bill showing you pay for trash service. If you have questions call City Hall at 512-355-2197.
