Cowan’s Market in Briggs

Once again fresh vegetables are available at Cowan’s Market. A delightful array of produce is there for sale. This includes tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, egg plant, onions, peaches and melons.

It is not just people from Briggs who benefit from the fresh vegetables of the market but people from the surrounding areas as well. Commuters who travel through this route look forward to stopping by for vegetables. Persons from Copperas Cove and Killeen have asked what days the market is open. A son of mine who lives a few hours away always makes a point of getting tomatoes when he visits here.

Cowan’s Market is open on Thursday and Friday afternoons from 2 to 6 p.m. and they open at 10 a.m. on Saturdays. The market is located on Loop 308 in Briggs, across from the post office and adjacent to Firehouse Feeds.

Farmers Market at Oakalla Library

Librarian Tricia Pratt reported that this past Saturday’s market was very well attended. There was a wide variety of choices for people to purchase and to enjoy.

There was a booth displaying jars of golden honey, another booth contained homemade tamales by Maria. Additionally there were eggs, barbecue, home-baked items, vegetables and several types of handicrafts.

More than just displaying items for purchase, a couple of booths were informative and educational. Ryan Murray had a booth doing show and tell with fossils and arrowheads. Robert Ratliff did a flint knapping demonstration with a group who gathered to watch.

Farmers Markets are held on second and fourth Saturdays of each month. The price of a booth is $10. Contact person is Tricia Pratt at 512-525- 3864. The market is located at 28981 FM 963 in Oakalla.
