We are in those hot summer days when many thoughts turn to cool refreshments. One particular item that comes to mind is watermelon. There are many places where these sweet treats can be procured, but one of these places is here in Briggs.
Linda Cowan of Cowan’s vegetable stand reports that she has a good supply of watermelons. Additionally there are many other garden fresh vegetables from which to choose. The hours are Thursday and Friday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and she will open on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. The location is Loop 308 in Briggs, across from the Post Office and adjacent to Firehouse Feeds.
Oakalla Library Farmers Market. A market was held this past Saturday, July 11, and the next one will be on the fourth Saturday, July 25. In addressing precautions at this time, vendor stands will be safe distances from each other, hand sanitizer will be available and masks are encouraged.
Librarian Tricia Pratt is still welcoming new vendors. The market is open on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. The price for a booth is $10 per day. The contact number for more information is 512-525-3864.

Library Activities at Oakalla Library. Librarian Tricia Pratt encourages everyone to come by and check out books and participate in a variety of activities. There is a restriction that only eleven people may be inside the library at one time.
The library is open on Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., on Fridays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The location is 28981 FM 963, Oakalla. Contact number for more information is 512-525-3864.
Texas summer weather is upon us. Scorched fields are turning pale yellow against the contrast of green live oaks, pecan and cedar trees — and the parched grass sounds crunchy when walked on. Forecasters warn that temperatures will often be in the 100s.
There are a few positive things about this hot weather. If clothes are hung outside to dry, it will only take a few minutes for that to happen. And another very definite benefit is that there are starting to be fewer chiggers.
