Eighteen-year-old Rowan Pratt of Oakalla keeps pretty busy with his various music undertakings. He teaches private lessons on the guitar at the Wise Owl Academy in Kempner. Also he holds a class there called the Garage Band. Those who sign up for this class learn how to practice and perform in a band. His Manager, Tanisha Garfield said that this group held a winter concert and plans another one for the spring. In addition to being available to play guitar for several groups, he can be found playing the piano at Oakalla Baptist Church each Sunday morning. Rowan says that he is “happy to be moving forward with respect to teaching and playing.” Anyone wishing to reach Rowan for help with the guitar, or wishing to sign up for one of his instructional opportunities can contact his Manager, Tanisha Garfield at 254-290-7990.
Redbud/Oakalla Extension Education Association. On Monday, Feb. 17 the Redbud/Oakalla Chapter held its regular meeting and luncheon at the Briggs Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Vice President Roberta Eacott demonstrated an “Easy Tote” sewing project. President Roxanne Dunegan reminded members of the Woman to Woman conference on March 2nd and the Spring Conference on March 26 and 27. The March Meeting will be Monday the 18th with a trip to the Hill Country Water Gardens in Cedar Park.
Coffee on the Bridge. Enjoy coffee with friends and neighbors on the historic iron truss bridge over the North San Gabriel Saturday, March 2 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Joppa.
Meet and Eat. Bring your favorite pot luck dish and friends and family to the Oakalla
Community Center Monday night, March 4th at 6:30 for the Meet and Eat Supper.
Briggs Community Center Meeting. The community center meeting is Monday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m.
Historic Use of Medicinal Plants. The Oakalla Library will host a Botanical Gardens presentation about the historic use of medicinal plants on Saturday, March 23 at 11:00 a.m.
