Burnet CISD extends McBurnett’s contract

Last week, the Burnet CISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to extend Superintendent Keith McBurnett’s contract another year through June 30, 2024. McBurnett is beginning his ninth year with the district, and officially began his duties as superintendent on March 27, 2012.

Board President Andy Feild stated, “The Board continues to be very pleased with the leadership that Mr. McBurnett provides the District, and commends him for exceeding our expectations, and on his commitment to servant leadership. We look forward to working with him into the future as we keep our promise of crafting the future.”

Under McBurnett’s leadership, the district serves 3,200 students, operates a $34 million budget, and has a strong focus on continuous improvement. In addition, McBurnett has worked collaboratively with the Board of Trustees to lower the tax rate five years in a row, aggressively pay off debt, improve school safety, secure outside funding for district programs, maintain and enhance facilities, increase compensation plans to lead the Hill Country in teacher pay, and focus on proactive communication with district stakeholders.

In addition to his district leadership responsibilities, McBurnett is a civic leader, serving on the Boards of the Hill Country Community Foundation and the Rotary Club of Burnet. In addition, he serves as UIL District Chair for 13-4A, mentors new superintendents, and teaches a class on District Culture for aspiring superintendents through the Region 13 Service Center’s superintendent certification program. Both of his sons are proud Burnet High School graduates, and his wife Pat, is a retired BCISD kindergarten teacher.
