Former Burnet County Court at Law Judge William Randolph “Randy” Savage passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, at the age of 76.

His death was announced on Facebook by his sister, Mary Ann Savage Fletcher, who said, “On Sunday, Feb. 7, my brother and dear friend, Judge William Randolph “Randy” Savage passed to life eternal. I cannot express how much I miss him already, but I know in my heart our Lord came and got him.”

Former 33rd District Judge Gil Jones, who successfully defeated Savage for that judicial seat in 1996, also announced the latter’s passing on his Facebook page, stating “To say I’ve lost a contemporary is an understatement.”

“It was a civil campaign and I always appreciated Randy for that,” Jones wrote. “I won that race, but Randy later became Judge of the Burnet County Court at Law where he presided for many years, and we divvied up some concurrent jurisdiction.

“But here is the real reason I feel especially strongly about losing a contemporary: we shared the identical birthday to the month, day and year (March 2, 1944). There was always a race to see which of us could get to the other first and fling the idea that ‘you’re sure getting older.’ See you later, Judge.”

Jones said he first met Savage when Jones came to the Highland Lakes in 1984 and joined the Rotary Club of Marble Falls, of which Savage had been a longtime member and past president.

Other glowing tributes were paid on Facebook to Savage, who served as County Court at Law Judge until 2014, when he was succeeded by incumbent Judge Linda Bayless.

Incumbent 424th District Judge Evan Stubbs wrote “Sure sorry to hear of his passing — in my dealings with him, he was very hard working and always fair, and even if you didn’t agree with the result, you knew he was doing what he thought was right. Prayers to his family and friends and may he Rest In Peace.”

Visitation for Savage will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, February 19, at Clements Wilcox, 1805 N. Hwy 281, Marble Falls. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 20, at First United Methodist Church, 1101 Bluebonnet Drive, Marble Falls.
