Alan Webster Hicks

Alan Webster Hicks, 85, passed away July 14, 2020. He was born December 10, 1934 in Wagoner, OK to James Amos Hicks and Pearl Johnston Hicks. He accepted Jesus as his Savior on October 21, 1945.

Alan and Mary Sullivan were married on June 10, 1955 and just celebrated 65 years together.

His parents, 4 brothers J.C., Bill, Charles & Kenny and a 17-month-old son Christopher Hicks, precede him in death.

Alan is survived by his wife Mary of the home, 2 sons James Alan Hicks (Sharon) of Eaton, OH and H. Bryan Hicks (Catherine) of Marble Falls, 5 grandchildren Christopher “Kiefer” Hicks of Cambridge, MA; Duncan Hicks (Amanda) of Austin, TX; Bradley Webster Hicks (Sarah) of Chicago, IL; Amanda Hicks Williams (Tyler) of Kansas City, MO; and Scott Hicks of Chicago, IL; and a sister Joy Vanlandingham of Sapula, OK.

Alan spent a number of years in retail management; he worked as an insurance investigator and adjuster. The 20 or so years before retirement were spent working in the oil industry as a special projects manager, writing and presenting papers to the society of petroleum engineers. He was quite active in computer design in oil field equipment.

After retirement, he became an avid woodworker. His greatest joy was in building and giving the finished product as a gift to others. Another hobby was fishing; he spent many hours in his boat with good friends on our wonderful lakes.

Alan started attending college at about the same time our boys started college. He received an Associates Degree while living in Big Spring, TX before moving to Burnet.

Alan was a member of First Baptist Church, Burnet. He loved studying his Bible and teaching Sunday school, which he did from age 17 to 80.

Music was an important part of his life, as a young man he sang in men’s quartets; he was a substitute choir director at a couple of small churches in Oklahoma and West Texas. He played baritone in high school band and enjoyed playing it for church one Sunday night about 6 years ago for 5th Sunday Program.

Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund or Missions.
