Laura Jean Dougherty, a beloved soul, returned home to the Lord on August 3, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. She passed in divine peace, surrounded by her loved ones in the comfort of her home.

A remarkable being, Laura was born in Hammond, Indiana on September 17, 1950. From an early age, growing up with many siblings, she valued family above all else. Throughout her life, she was always found serving others with kindness and compassion.

As a selfless woman of God, she took pleasure in fulfilling the needs of others, regardless of her own. Along with her love of family, Laura had a unique touch with nature. She adored early morning sunrises as well as sowing into her personal garden. In the midst of tending to God’s beautiful creation, Laura always looked forward to the next fruitful harvest that life offered.

Her life was a perfect example of Psalms 128:2, “For you shall eat the fruit of your hands, you will be happy and blessed and it will be well with you.” Laura sowed into her garden, but most importantly, sowed into the lives of many people. Touching each person in a unique way, her love was unmeasurable.

She is survived by her spouse, Joe Dougherty; her children, Laura and Victor Juarez and George Lee Grimsley; her grandchildren, Ethaniel and Isabella Juarez; her father, Lee Howell; her siblings, Mike Sopp, Steve Sopp, Patricia Morgan, and Linda Wiggins; her nephews, Robert Marx, David Marx, Steven Sopp; and her nieces, Jenifer McDuff and Crissy Hinkle.

In honor of Laura’s life, a graveside service was held on the morning of August 8, 2020, in Burnet at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park. While she will be greatly missed, her incredible love will forever be remembered.

Arrangements were made by Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet.
