Richard Sanders was born to the late Thomas and Mamie Sanders, on April 10, 1925, in Florence, Texas. He died on August 27, 2020 at the age of 95. His other eight sisters and brothers preceded him in death.

He was a Navy Veteran serving in World War II. He met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Lavern Barton and to this union was born three children: two daughters, Dorothy Johnson, Elizabeth Houston, and a son Richard Sanders Jr., who preceded him in death.

He was a long time member of St. Matthew A.M.E. Church in Burnet, where he served positions of Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer.

He worked many years as a Mechanic for Dickens Automotive. He later opened his own shop, Richard’s Garage. He worked there, many years until he retired.

Richard leaves to cherish his memory, daughters Dorothy Johnson, Elizabeth Houston (Rufus). 4 granddaughters Denisse McLemore, Erica Smith (Wayne), Natalie Houston (Brent), Tameka Sanders.

Two granddaughters preceded him in death, Renee Bird and Brandy Sanders. He has numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He leaves behind a host of relatives and friends

Richard was elected and served 3 times on the Burnet City Council. He was honored and served in the 1970s. He was honored last year when the City Of Burnet named a street after him, Richard Sanders Parkway, located on the comer of the new Baylor Scott & White Complex, across from the Burnet County Sheriffs Office.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 2, 2020, at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, Burnet. Interment will follow at Burnet City Cemetery.
