What so many thought they’d never see in the fall of 2020 is unfolding at BHS. Fall sports has been a breath of fresh air to thousands of fans in the Hill Country and fingers are crossed that the ball keep rolling.

I’m doing my best to make every event possible because nobody knows when it could all get shutdown.

Here locally Bulldog fans have a wide variety of choices currently as to what sport they’d like to watch. It seems like you can take in a volleyball game on just about any given day and the three girls teams representing BHS have gotten off to a fantastic start.

A special shout out to those scrappy JV Lady Dawgs who were still undefeated at 7-0 going into the weekend.

BHS football got to mix it up with Lake Belton players last Thursday and there were plenty of guys in green making great plays. Marcus Escamilla was certainly a bright spot toting for 192-yards, including a 90-yard touchdown run.

The Bulldog offense put some good stuff on film but the Dawg defense, those front seven in particular, were putting in work.

Guys like Howell, Miller, Ng, Thornley, and others could be a real force to reckon with this fall.

The freshman and JV football teams will kick-start the season tomorrow night in Jarrell with the freshman game starting at 5:00 p.m. followed by the JV contest.

The real deal will start for the varsity Dawgs on Friday night when they host the Jarrell Cougars for the season opener.

In case you don’t know all the sports options fans can also catch some Bulldog tennis action. Those young men and women will be back on the courts this Friday evening in Lampasas.

The BHS swim team has also been working hard; they’ll dive into their season in September when they take part in the Georgetown Invitational.

The BHS cross country teams will get their first test this Saturday as they head to Florence to open their season.

The Bulldog golf team will be swinging away on Sept. 17 when they host Hutto.

Add all the Burnet Middle School sports schedules to this mix and you’ll find there’s not enough hours in the week to catch them all.

My coverage starts with varsity level core sports each week and I work my way to as many different events as I can from there.

I’m hoping it’s a long season of Fall Sports that includes some playoff runs for the Bulldogs and Lady Dawgs. That’s all for this week.

That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading the Burnet Bulletin.
