Dawgs football places 15 players on All-District list

Burnet was well represented on the District 13-4A football All-District selections with 15 players on the list claiming 20 total selections.

First team awards were earned by seniors Jaxson Denton, Marcus Escamilla, Braeden Howell and Jonathon Nandin, as well as junior Landon Christian.

Denton and Howell were each honored with two-way first team selections. Denton was named first team quarterback and first team defensive utility player. Howell made the first team list on offense for his work at tight end, and defense from his defensive end position. Both boys also earned Academic All-District awards.

Escamilla was honored on first team at the running back position, Nandin was selected first team offensive lineman, and Christian was a first teamer on the defensive side at his defensive back spot.

Second team selections went to Hayden Henry, senior, offensive lineman; Ethan Wolfe, junior, offensive utility; Maison Thornley, senior, linebacker; Nikko Ynfante, junior, linebacker; Brandon Ng, junior, defensive back; and Jesse Laidler, junior, defensive back.

Honorable mention selections went to Colton Davidson, junior, offensive lineman; Cade Rye, senior, wide receiver; and Grishma Pun, senior, defensive lineman. Rye also earned a spot on the Academic All-District list.

Tim Hudgins, senior, was named Academic All-District for his efforts and contributions during the 2020 season.

“I am really proud of what all these guys have accomplished,” said head coach Jerod Rye. “Several of the seniors are multiple year all district players. They also led us back to the playoffs for the first time in four years in what has proven to be one of the toughest districts in the state. We are going to certainly miss our seniors but are excited about the future of Burnet football. Coming off a playoff season and having a JV that finished 7-3 and a freshman group that went 10-0, has got us excited about what the future holds.”
