Fall team tennis kicked off their 2020 season last Wednesday with a tournament hosted on Burnet’s courts. The Bulldogs and Lady Dawgs welcomed Canyon Lake to town for a dual match. It was the first match of the season for both teams.

Canyon Lake eventually took the overall dual match win, 14-5, but the Dawgs held their own in several sets and had a few victories along the way.

Will Gregg and Lawson Lucky picked up a win at the number one boys doubles line; as did Zaida Freeman and Tatum Salinas at the number one girls doubles line.

Gregg, Freeman, and Salinas also all added individual wins at the top-flight of single match competition.

Terry Rutledge lost a tough match, 7-9. Kyleigh Mott was another bright spot for Burnet. She fought hard throughout her singles match but came up just short, 6-8.

“Even in losses, many of the Bulldogs got some great experience and fought hard in losing efforts,” said Burnet’s tennis coach Nate Redman.

The Bulldog tennis team will play in eight more tournaments during their fall season. Their next match is set for Friday, Aug. 28 at 4:00 p.m. in Lampasas. They will return to their home courts on Friday, Sept. 4 when they host Boerne at 4:00 p.m.

District certification for team tennis is Oct. 24.
