During the first week of school the Lady Bulldog volleyball program found time to also play in five games. The Burnet teams traveled to Gatesville on Tuesday night, hosted a dual between Burnet, Johnson City and Lampasas on Friday, and welcomed Thrall and Llano on Saturday for their second dual in as many days.

The varsity Lady Dawgs opened with a set win versus Gatesville, 25-23, but fell in three-straight after that dropping the match 15-25, 12-25 and 19-25.

The JV girls improved their record to 5-0 with a twoset win over Gatesville, 25-14, 25-14. This is a group that has been turning heads in recent weeks.

Friday evening the team had to dig deep in their first match in order to keep their perfect record intact, but they rose to the occasion and got the job done.

This is an entertaining group to watch, to say the least. Coach Hailey Wooten certainly has them focused and heading in the right direction. These girls don’t lack any Bulldog spirit, pride or honor, and their passion comes shining through on game day, as does their hard work.

On Friday they entered the contest with an unblemished record but found themselves facing a formattable opponent when the JV Badgers came to town.

After the game one dust had settled the Lady Dawgs were down one set, 17-25.

The girls in green quickly bounced back with a set two win, 25-17, before finishing their come-from-behind win 25-18 in set three.

In their second game of the evening they easily defeated Johnson city in straight-sets 25-16, 25-17 and as of Friday the girls were boasting a 7-0 record.

In the varsity dual on Friday Burnet opened with a straight-sweep over Lampasas. In the first set the Lady Dawgs built a 23-10 lead before struggling through some hitting errors which allowed the Lady Badgers to close the gap to 23-16. A Kayla Gillaspie kill finally broke Lampasas’ streak. MaeSyn Gay soon closed out the game with a kill ending set one 25-17.

In the middle of game two Gillaspie showcased her excellent serving skills. From the line she bumped Burnet’s lead from 12-8 to 18-8. During that time libero Kyli Davis had a fantastic pancake to keep things alive for Gillaspie. The second set eventually ended on a Karissa Killebrew kill, 25-12.

By the third set it was clear that Burnet was the dominate team. The Lady Dawgs never lost the lead in the match and game three ended on a Gay kill, 25-13. Rylee Hernandez finished

Rylee Hernandez finished the match with seven points, three aces and a block. Gay posted nine kills, two blocks and three service points including an ace. Sydne Massoletti had nine points with four aces and four kills. Gillaspie contributed seven kills, nine points and two aces. Teagan Tappe stood tall at the net with five blocks and two kills. Caty Crow scored 10 points with two aces and had one block. Killebrew added up four kills, and Addie Grace Hernandez contributed another. Davis posted numerous digs and did an awesome job with serve receive at the libero position.

In Burnet’s second match of the dual they opened with a win over Johnson City before dropping the match in four sets.

No freshman game information was available as of press time. All three teams hosted a dual on Saturday and they were all on the road Tuesday at Wimberley. This Friday, Aug. 28 they will host Fredericksburg with matches starting at 5 p.m.
