The BHS volleyball teams wrapped-up the first round of district play last Tuesday hosting Taylor. Burnet’s girls played fantastic and completed a three-match sweep over the visiting Ducks giving the girls in green momentum heading into the second round.

“We were able to get the sweep against Taylor. This was much needed after a tough Friday game at Salado for the JV and varsity girls,” said head volleyball coach Crystal Shipley.

Against Taylor the JV girls collected a quick two-set win over the Ducks. The freshman girls faced more of a battle against the previously undefeated Taylor team. It took three sets, but Burnet handed the Ducks their first loss. The victories moved the JV squad to 4-1 in district, and the freshman girls are still undefeated at 5-0.

Burnet’s varsity team downed the Ducks in three straight sets, 25-12, 25-20, 25-11.

“We got up early in the first set and had some big plays, including an impressive 14 straight serves from senior Karissa Killebrew,” said Shipley.

This win brought Burnet’s record to 3-2 at the midway point of district play.

“This is great momentum leading into the second round. I am so proud of these young ladies and how hard they have worked and stepped up to a big challenge,” said Shipley.

Lake Belton pulled out an exciting win in the first set, 29-27, but Burnet came back taking the next three for the match win, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19.

The JV Lady Dawgs also lost their first set in Belton, 25-20, but earned the match with back-to-back victories 25-18, 25-16. This moves their record to 21-2 overall, 5-1 in district play.
