The BMS football program played in two pick-up games last Tuesday night after Taylor cancelled their scheduled district games. The Pups welcomed San Antonio Cornerstone Christian to town for one seventh-grade and eighth-grade game. Burnet’s seventh-grade team earned a big 52-8 victory but unfortunately the eighth-grade squad fell in defeat.

Seventh-grade

The seventh-grade Pups took on the SA Warriors Tuesday night and team green earned a big victory, 52-8. The first half of play was all Burnet as the Pups put up 32 points before the break.

“In addition to our outstanding offensive play the defense was also able to cause havoc and finished with four interceptions one of which went for a touchdown. Overall, the kids played hard and had a lot of fun,” said coach Chad Keele.

Rushing leaders included Peyton Lopez, 67-yards; Will Morris, 24-yards, two touchdowns, and a two-point conversion; Josiah Coronado, 23-yards and a touchdown; Demetrius Taliaferro, 18-yards and a touchdown; Riley Howell, 58-yards and one score; Andrew Coots, 42-yards and a touchdown; and Charles Edwards, 17-yards and a two-point conversion.

Trevon Park was Burnet’s leading receiver with 11-yards. Coronado totaled three-yards and a two-point conversion as did Alan Hausman.

Defensively Kalvin Hubbard had a tackle for a loss and a pick-six. Park finished the game with two interceptions, and Lane Bizzell picked off another.

Eighth-grade

The eighth-grade Pups faced a very talented SA Cornerstone team and fell in defeat.

Defensively Jeremy Hatfield had two behind-the-line tackles, Colton Wilson recorded a sack, Levi Guthrie pounced on a fumble, and Colt Stanford had a fourth quarter interception for Burnet.

Offensively Lew Laidler and Matthew Valdez had some good gains on the ground for the Pups. Laidler scored Burnet’s lone touchdown on a 59-yard run.
