Tennis gets first district victory

The Burnet team tennis squad combined efforts last Thursday to produce their first district victory of the 2020 season. The effort was led by the Lady Dawg group who swept all their matches.

After double’s competition Burnet was up 4-3 with 12 singles match to be played. The Lady Dawgs collected six singles wins to help edge out Lake Belton 10-9.

In doubles play Zaida Freeman and Will Gregg defeated their opponents, 6-2, 6-4. Tatum Salinas and Kyleigh Mott combined for a 6-1, 6-3 win. Lainey Rye and McKenzie Davis also posted a doubles win, 6-4, 6-0. Christina Graves and Kendall Bible won in default.

Individual victories in singles play were earned by, Zaida Freeman, 7-5, 6-1; Tatum Salinas, 6-3, 6-0; Kyleigh Mott, 6-0, 7-5; Lainey Rye, 6-4, 6-0; Kendall Bible, 6-3, 6-4; and Christian Graves, 6-0, 6-0.

“We are very proud of the hard work and hustle these athletes have put in this season,” said coach Nathan Redman after the match.

The Bulldogs will travel to Jarrell on Thursday to finish out district play.
