AT&T – through its participation in the FCC’s Connect America Fund – has extended high-speed Internet service to more than 78,000 homes and businesses in rural parts of more than 80 counties in Texas.

In the first four months of 2020, AT&T has continued to expand access to new Fixed-Wireless Internet services at more than 20 additional cellular towers. This effort makes high-speed Internet available to even more rural customers across the state, as the company works to meet their goal of delivering access to nearly 19,700 additional locations by the end of this year for a total of more than 98,000 fixed wireless locations in Texas.

Fixed-Wireless Internet delivers an internet connection with typical download speeds of 25Mbps. The connection comes from a wireless tower to a fixed antenna on a customer’s home or business, creating an efficient way to deliver last-mile high-speed internet to customers living in underserved rural areas.

“In these unprecedented times and beyond, our state and local leaders are focused on the connectivity needs in Texas, and their efforts have positioned communities across the state to welcome investments in high-speed infrastructure,” said Leslie Ward, President of AT&T-Texas. “We are working handin-hand with leaders across the state to keep residents and businesses connected and will continue to deploy the innovative fixed wireless service and more to improve and enhance local networks.”

The service is available to locations in rural parts of Burnet County. Fixed Wireless Internet is a highspeed Internet access service providing download speed of at least 10Mbps/1Mbps upload speed.

Service performance may be affected by the customer’s proximity to a cell site, the capacity of the cell site, the number of other users connected to the same cell site, the surrounding terrain, radio frequency interference, applicable network management practices, and the applications used.
