A non-profit organization from Spokane Valley, Washington, came to Burnet County Monday, June 15, to pay tribute to a fallen peace officer.

E.O.W. Ride to Remember was established to raise awareness of the law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty last year. Each year this event honors fallen officers and gives their friends, family, and coworkers a chance to remember them by riding and joining in their names.

Meza, who passed away in December 2019, was among 146 officers in 30 states who tragically lost their lives in 2019 and were being honored. Meza’s name and photo are listed on a customized dually truck and 28-foot trailer which is traveling thousands of miles to multiple cities and states to bring exposure to the community and law enforcement about these officers’ sacrifices.

In Burnet, the organization held a celebration of life and presented a plaque to Meza’s widow, Cristina, as well as the department to commemorate his service.

E.O.W. also provides families of fallen officers with financial support and educational scholarships and provides safety equipment and donations to departments who have lost officers.
