After an exhaustive investigation, authorities say they have connected a man initially arrested on credit card abuse charges with the death of an elderly woman, who was last seen at a Burnet motel.
Burnet police investiga-tors charged 45-year-old Adrian Vega with capital murder Dec. 30 in the death of 75-year-old Nancy Lord of Silver Creek.
The case unfolded on Jan. 10, when she was found dead, just after being reported missing by family members.
Lord — who reportedly suffered from dementia — had taken up temporary residency at the La Vista Motel, in the 500 block of Texas 29 in Burnet. She told Burnet County Sheriff’s Office investigators that she was attempting to spend some time alone away from family.
On Jan. 6, she was last seen leaving the motel on foot, the report stated. Her body was found four days later in a remote part of the city.
The following day surveillance video from a local hardware store assisted Burnet police in capturing an alleged fraud suspect. Vega, who was identified in the images, was charged with seven counts of credit/debit card abuse of the elderly, a 3rd degree felony.
Until March 30, he remained in jail on bonds totaling $527,500 which included a Travis County warrant for criminal mischief.
Vega currently “is being held without bond,” according to the Burnet PD press release.
In a weekly report Dec. 31 to the community by Burnet City Manager David Vaughn, he offered insight into the investigation.
“Congratulations to (BPD) Investigator Ron Sillavan on a job well done. Ron was able to get Adrian Vega to confess to the murder or Nancy Lord, who’s body was found along Hamilton Creek about a year ago,” Vaughn wrote.
