Unemployment rate ticks up in Highland Lakes

The unadjusted unemployment rate in the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas ticked up to 6.1 percent in September 2020, after a four month slide to 5.2 percent in August, down from a high of 11.5 percent in April, according to figures released today by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

The 6.1 percent unemployment rate in the ninecounty Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) represented 34,276 residents seeking employment. The region’s unemployment rate remained below both the Texas (8.3 percent) and national (7.7 percent) unadjusted rates.

Within the WSRCA counties, Blanco recorded the lowest unemployment rate at 4.2 percent in September. Burnet and Lee counties came in at 5.1 percent. Fayette County was at 5.5 percent, while Williamson County was at 6.0 percent. Llano County was at 6.1 percent, Bastrop County was at 6.3 percent, while Hays County came in at 6.5 percent and Caldwell County was at 6.6 percent.
