Wardens find missing boater on Lake LBJ

A Highland Haven man’s body was found in Lake LBJ a day after he was reported missing during a boat ride on Lake LBJ, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

On Thursday, Dec. 10, searchers recovered the body of Rowdy Brafford, 60, around 9:45 a.m. in about 40 feet of water just off the shoreline of McNair Park in Sunrise Beach.

The boater initially went missing around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9.

“It was reported to us that a subject came out of the boat (while it was moving) somehow and did not resurface,” TPWD Capt. Cody Hatfield said. “We located him with a side-scan sonar and a local dive team recovered his

Agencies who assisted Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in the search included LCRA Rangers, Llano County Sheriff’s Department, Sunrise Beach Police Department and Granite Shoals Police Department as well as a number of volunteer fire agency personnel.

Officials are gathering more evidence in connection with the outing.

“We’re still investigating,” Hatfield said. The victim was not wearing a life jacket.

Llano County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Bebe Rocha ordered an autopsy.
