Reverend Dr. E. David Henry

E. David Henry was bom on November 28. 1946. in Temple. Texas, to E.E. 'Buck', and Lillie Henry. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale, Texas. David grew up in the small town of Rockdale, the proud son of the owner of Henry Garage—a family business that continued for nearly 70 years.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Bobby Jo 'BJ” Henry; two sons, Paul David Henry and wife April of Spicewood, Texas, and Joel Robert Henry and wife Melissa of Manvel, Texas: and six beloved grandchildren: Jackson David, Luke Nathaniel. Blake Robert. Cameron Joel. Caroline Ann, and Charlie David: his sister. Ann Henry of Austin: BJ's brothers. Bill Jones and wife Terry, and John Jones and wife Becky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pastor Henry graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Pharmacy in 1969 and an M.S. in 1971. During his time at UT, he was recognized as an Outstanding Student (Spring 1969). inducted into the Friar Society and the Rlio Chi Honorary Society, and seived as president of the Longhorn Pharmaceutical Association.
After marrying BJ in 1970— to the surprise of his family— and especially his wife—David followed his tine calling and entered Luther Seminary in St. Paul. Minnesota, in 1972. He graduated in 1976 and was ordained on February 8 of that year. He later earned his Doctor of Ministry fiom Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1984. Pastor Henry seived three congregations: Grace Lutheran Church in Bandera. Texas: Risen Lord Lutheran Church in Odessa. Texas: and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Marble Falls. Texas from 1980 to 2010.
Following his retirement from active ministry, he returned to his first profession as a pharmacist, working at Cattle’s Pharmacy in Lampasas and at H-E-B Pharmacies iu Marble Falls and Burnet, retiring officially in 2014. alongside his pharmacist wife. BJ.
David was blessed with a loving family who surrounded him with care throughout his illness. His deep love for BJ; his sons. Paul and Joel; his two daughters-in-law, April and Melissa: his six grandchildren: his caregiver grandson. Luke: and his cherished sister. Ann, sustained him always. Special appreciation is extended to his many friends who reached out personally during his illness.
David believed that everyone should be passionate about something. His passions included pipe organs and pipes, music from Bach to jazz, his 1929 Model A Roadster, trains of all kinds— including his model trains— and, most of all. his church. He believed that, in turbulent times, the church must be a witness to the grace of God. God's unlimited grace—and our response to it—was always at the heart of his sermons: to love others and to experience God's love in his creation.
A Celebration of the Life of Reverend Dr. E. David Henry will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where he faithfully seived as pastor for 30 years. The service will be on Saturday, January 24. at 1:00 p.m.. followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Clergy in attendance are invited to vest and process.
