Garry Don Montgomery

January 6,1957 -January 6, 2026

Garry Montgomery Sr., of Bertram, Texas, was born on January 6, 1957, and lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, and an unwavering love for the land. He passed away surrounded by those who loved him, leaving behind a legacy rooted deeply in Texas soil and family values.

A lifelong rancher, Garry devoted his life to caring for the land and livestock, believing strongly in stewardship, selfrcliance, and the traditions of rural life. His deep knowledge of agriculture and his passion for ranching made him a respected voice and advocate for the agricultural community alongside his longtime ranching partner and dear friend, Kevin Churchwell. He believed in doing things the right way—through honest labor, perseverance, and respect for nature.

In addition to ranching, Garry was a skilled masonry contractor, known for his craftsmanship, reliability, and pride in a job well done. The structures he and his decades-long partner, Larry Schmidt built stand as lasting reminders of their dedication and work ethic, much like the values Garry passed on to his family.

Garry was a man of quiet strength, practical wisdom, and steadfast character. He found joy in long days ofhonest work, time spent outdoors, and moments shared with family and friends. He taught by example—showing that commitment, responsibility, and love are best demonstrated through action.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Beverly Montgom-f

Tiery, daughter and son-in-law Kelly & Daniel Champeau, son Garry ’Bud’ Montgomery, Jr., grandson Coen and granddaughters Marley and Mia Champeau, as well as five sisters, two brothers and their spouses, many nieces, nephews and friends that he loved as family, who will carry forward his legacy of resilience, faith, and devotion to family and land.

Garry D. Montgomery Sr. will be remembered as a rancher, a builder, an advocate, and above all, a man who lived true to his principles. His legacy will continue in the land he worked, the community he served, and the family he loved. In his honor and in lieu of flowers, the family has created a scholarship fund through the Hill Country Community Foundation that will provide scholarships for children in Bumet County that are pursuing higher education with a focus on Career and Technical Education.

A celebration of life will be held January 24,2026 1 PM to 4 PM at the Bumet Community Center with light refreshments provided.
