James Douglas Christian (age 93) went home to be with our Lord and Savior Friday, January 15, 2021.

He passed away peacefully at home of natural causes, complicated by Parkinson’s disease. Graveside service were held on Monday, January 18, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Bluffton Cemetery, Bluffton, Texas.

James was born in Hereford, Texas on December 27, 1927, to William Boyd and Mary Lee (Morgan) Christian. The young family returned home to Llano County during the depression. James attended grade school in Lone Grove and spent countless hours playing and fishing with his little brother, Billy, in Little Llano Creek and Spring Creek. James graduated from Richland Springs High School and then served in the U.S. Army in Japan. After his military service, James attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois. James’ main career was as a civilian employee of the U.S. Army at Fort Hood (supply division). In 1978, he returned home to Llano County and built a home in Tow, Texas. James spent his retirement years fishing, doing yard work, polishing his skills as a devoted Bible student, serving as leader and teacher at the Tow Church of Christ, and enjoying his large family through weekly gatherings revolving around meals and games.

James demonstrated his Christian faith by generously donating to worldwide Christian outreach programs and charitable organizations.

James married the love of his life, Opal “Janet” (Smith) Christian, on August 3, 1949, in Richland Springs, Texas. The couple was happily married for 61 years until Janet’s death in 2010. Together they raised 6 children: Marilyn, Randall, Ronald, Donna, David, and Kristi.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lee (Morgan) and William Boyd Christian; wife, Janet (Smith) Christian; sister, Julia Doris Harlow; brother, Jerrell David Christian; and daughter-in-law, Stella Louise (Steudeman) Christian.

James is survived by his children and their spouses: Marilyn & Charles Alderson of Gatesville, Texas; Randall Christian of Tow, Texas; Ronald & Linda Christian of Waco, Texas; Donna Polk of Winona, Texas; David & Kelly Christian of Avondale, Arizona; and Kristi Christian of Leander, Texas.

James is also survived by his brother, Bill Christian (Kingsland), sisters, Wilma Lea Bowles (Waco), Virginia Baker (Dale), and Sue Fox (Decatur).

“Grandpa Jim” will be greatly missed by his 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and the greatgreat grandchild that is on the way.
