Extended seasons for Bulldogs

This week’s editorial starts with a big shout-out to the varsity boys’ cross country team. The Burnet boys team finished the district race in second place overall punching their ticket to the Region IV Championships. This is Burnet’s first boys’ team to do so since 2008, a dozen years ago.

Bulldog XC team heading to Regionals

For the first time in a dozen years the Burnet boy’s cross country team combined to qualify for a team spot at Regionals with a second place finish in district. Burnet’s boys were paced by their own sophomore district champion, Hudson Bennett, who claimed the 19-4A district gold medal with a first place time of 16:25.5. Bennett’s junior teammate, Andy Urista, posted a 17:10.9 for district bronze, and Carlos Leon, a Burnet junior, finished in the top ten as well with a ninth place 17:58.8 for the Bulldogs.

Lady Dawgs sweep top-ranked Salado

The Lady Bulldog volleyball program earned some exciting wins last Tuesday night at their final home games of the 2020 season. The freshman girls kept their district record undefeated and remain in first place in 19-4A. The JV girls, who fell to Salado for their only district loss in round one play, defeated the Lady Eagle this match which keeps them in first place as well.

Dawgs dominate Jarrell, 18-0

The Bulldog tennis team traveled to Jarrell on Thursday and recorded a dominate performance winning every match for an 18-0 team victory. That 18-0 win put the Dawgs in a three-way tie for third place in the district.

Dawgs earn a pair of wins in non-district bouts

Despite having their district games cancelled this week the freshman and JV Dawgs managed to each get in a game with reschedules against Liberty Hill and Georgetown East View. The undefeated Burnet freshman team kicked things off first hosting a large Liberty Hill Panther squad.

Pups split games with Cornerstone

The BMS football program played in two pick-up games last Tuesday night after Taylor cancelled their scheduled district games. The Pups welcomed San Antonio Cornerstone Christian to town for one seventh-grade and eighth-grade game. Burnet’s seventh-grade team earned a big 52-8 victory but unfortunately the eighth-grade squad fell in defeat.

Badgers pour it on Dawgs late in blowout

The Burnet Bulldogs welcomed the number two stateranked Lampasas Badgers to town last Friday and for two and a half quarters the contest was closer than the final score may indicate. After trading a few punts, the Badgers put together the game’s first scoring drive starting from their own 42.

Lady Dawgs clinch playoffs

The end of district play is nearing for the BHS Lady Bulldog volleyball program but what a successful season the girls have had. With one game remaining on the schedule both the freshman and JV girls are on top in District 19- 4A, and the varsity girls have clinched a playoff spot.

Green wave strong in home opener

Burnet’s swim team participated in their home opener on Saturday at the Tex Robertson Natatorium. The Green Wave welcomed swimmers from Wimberley, Ann Richards and Liberty Hill. The Dawgs posted numerous personal best times and collected several medals for their early season efforts.
