Bulldog swimmers honored academically

Five members of the Green Wave swim team were honored last week with some prestigious selections. According to Academic All American Chairperson, Marney Shirley, “ Over 353,936 students are involved in aquatics at the high school level in over 17,454 programs for boys’ and girls’. Approximately two-percent of those students are recognized as high school All American’s.”

Burnet has two senior swimmers who qualified for that award.

Bulldog seniors Jacey Huston and Jordan Messer were each named to the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association Academic All-American list. To qualify for this award a participate must be a senior with at least a 3.75 or higher GPA.

The pair of seniors were also named to the Texas High School Coaches Association All-State Academic team. To be honored with this award an athlete must be a senior with a 92 or higher GPA. Huston was named to the Elite team and Messer earned a spot on the Second team.

Five Bulldog swimmers were named to the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association All-State Academic team. To qualify for this award a participant in aquatics must be a junior or a senior with a 3.75 GPA or higher. Burnet swimmers who earned this honor include Jacey Huston, Jordan Messer, Ryan Behrens, Julianna La Joie, and Zoe Nicholl.

“Congratulations to all these swimmers for not only an amazing year in the pool but also in the classroom,” said Burnet swim coach Stephanie Pegues.
