The Bulldog baseball ended their season last week with back-to-back losses versus Lake Belton. The Dawgs 2021 campaign fell short of the playoffs after Burnet posted a 4-11 district record. Despite being able to keep things close in some games Burnet dropped their last six contests straight eliminating post season hopes.

In their final week of play Burnet was tasked with facing the tough Lake Belton Broncos in a two-game series. The first contest, held on Tuesday in Burnet, resulted in an 8-4 victory for Lake Belton.

The Dawgs took a 1-0 led after their first at bat and held on to it until the top of the fourth inning. Jackson Crawford reached base on a single and was advanced to second on a Jaxson Denton single. A Lane Dalrymple single pushed Crawford to third and he was soon plated by Jesse Bachmayer’s sac fly giving the Dawgs a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth Lake Belton took control scoring five runs. They posted three more in the top of the sixth and held an 8-1 lead.

Burnet had two at bats remaining in the contest. In the bottom of the sixth the Dawgs posted a single. Dalrymple reached third on a triple and cross Homeplate after a wild pitch, 8-2.

In their final at bat Trevor Allen kicked things off with a single and was advanced to third after a Colby Zinz walk and Crawford fielders choice. Tanner O’Hair connected for a two RBI triple scoring Allen and Crawford, 8-4 which was eventually the final.

On Friday, the Dawgs traveled to Belton for their final game. After three innings played the Dawgs were trailing 3-0 but they fought back and soon captured the lead. In the top of the fourth Burnet posted a single run when a Dash Denton hit plated pinch runner Kash Dollar, 3-1 Bronco lead. After holding Lake Belton

After holding Lake Belton scoreless in the bottom of the fourth the Bulldogs went back to work in the fifth. A Dalrymple hit to centerfield scored Crawford closing the gap to 3-2. Vance was the next Bulldog to earn an RBI and he collected two with a double that scored Dalrymple and Dollar giving the Dawgs a 4-3 lead with two innings remaining.

Unfortunately, Lake Belton posted three runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on for the 9-4 victory.

Burnet finished with four runs off seven hits with one error. The Broncos had nine runs off eight hits with two errors.

Vance led at the plate with a double and a single. Other singles were recorded by O’Hair with two, as well as Crawford, Dalrymple, and D. Denton who each had one. Clayton Zinz pitched four
