This week’s editorial starts with a big shout-out to the varsity boys’ cross country team. The Burnet boys team finished the district race in second place overall punching their ticket to the Region IV Championships. This is Burnet’s first boys’ team to do so since 2008, a dozen years ago.

Sophomore Hudson Bennett led the way capturing his second varsity district crown in as many years.

Andy Urista had a phenomenal district run as well finishing third overall for a bronze medal, while teammate Carlos Leon also raced in for a top ten finish and medal at eighth-place.

A big congrats to all of the varsity runners. You can see a complete listing of the boys finishes in this week’s cross country results.

Rose Flores was Burnet’s first female finisher, helping lead her team to a fourth place finish with an eighth-place individual mark. Flores will be heading to the regional competition as well.

Burnet’s qualifiers will travel to Huntsville on Tuesday, Nov. 9 to participate in the Region IV Championships on the campus of Sam Houston State.

The varsity Lady Bulldog playoff team punched their own playoff ticket with a big win over district front-runner Salado on Tuesday and a win over the Taylor Ducks on the road Friday. It was not yet known who or when the Lady Dawgs would play in the bi-district round as of presstime. Burnet will represent 19-4A as the third place team.

The JV and freshman volleyball teams deserve some extra recognition after each claimed the district championship.

The freshman Lady Dawgs finished their season with a remarkable 25-2 overall record; 10-0 in district. Way to go girls!

The JV girls were also impressive with a 25-2 overall record. They closed out district play at 9-1.

In football news Burnet’s freshman hosted Liberty Hill on Thursday in a non-district make-up game after the cancelation of the Taylor contest. Burnet beat the visiting Panthers 22-8 and remain undefeated on the season at 8-0.

The JV football team also played in a non-district contest and won 26-12 over Georgetown East View.

The sub-varsity teams will play two more non-district contests this week due to the absence of LBJ teams. Burnet’s freshman will host Leander Glenn on Thursday followed by a JV contest between Burnet and Dripping Springs.

The varsity Bulldog football team has a little playing left to do but were pretty much guaranteed a playoff spot when Canyon Lake defeated Fredericksburg on Friday.

After having a bye due to cancelation last Friday, the Dawgs will be on the road this Friday at LBJ.

Burnet will wrap-up district play at home on Friday, Nov. 6.

That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading the Burnet Bulletin.
