Getting back to work

Having some time off to spend with family during the Christmas and New Year’s break was great. It’s always nice to have a little time off to just relax and visit with our kids. Our original group of five is now 10 so anytime we are all in one location these days I consider it to be a blessing.

We were all together on Christmas morning and soon after we took a family trip to Caddo Lake. The area is beautiful in its own sort of way. Our little cabin had a sign hanging that said welcome to the bayou so that should give you some sort of a visual of what was around us.

We hung out and played games, did some brief kayaking, went on a three-mile hike, shared meals, spend the day shopping in Jefferson, and crossed over into Louisiana, which turned out to only be a good idea for some of us.

It was a good trip and we enjoyed every minute together.

We drove home on Wednesday and got prepared for the blizzard of 2020. What a fitting way to end such an unusual year. While not much of the white stuff stuck around here it was still exciting to watch the boys spin around in the yard as the snow came down. Several kids in our oldest son’s neighborhood were outside, most in shorts, playing basketball in the streets. That’s Texas for you.

The break is now officially over and it’s time for spring sports to fill our schedule. The Lady Dawg basketball team played their final non-district games between Christmas and New Year’s Day. They were scheduled to play in three games, but Liberty Hill cancelled. Burnets girls did defeat Blanco and Georgetown Eastview. They began district play with a 13-1 record. Their first 19-4A game was on Tuesday at home versus Salado; they have a bye this Friday due to a five team district.

The boys basketball team played Llano and Robinson during the break. They defeated Llano but fell short to the Rockets. On Tuesday the Bulldogs traveled to Gatesville for their final non-district matchup. They are also open this Friday and will begin district play on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at home versus Salado.

Lady Bulldog soccer has taken to the field. Their most recent games were against Manor New Tech and Bandera. They will play in the Gator Classic at Gateway over the weekend and will be back in Burnet on Tuesday, Jan. 12 when they host Taylor.

The boys soccer team will kick off their season this Friday at home versus Canyon Lake.

Burnet’s swim team will return to the pool this Friday with a tri-meet versus Dripping Springs, Fredericksburg and Marble Falls. After that only one meet remains before their district swim which is scheduled for Jan. 29 in Georgetown. The district dive meet will be hosted in Burnet on Friday, Jan. 22.
