The end of district play is nearing for the BHS Lady Bulldog volleyball program but what a successful season the girls have had. With one game remaining on the schedule both the freshman and JV girls are on top in District 19- 4A, and the varsity girls have clinched a playoff spot.

Coach Crystal Shipley was eager to share her pride when speaking of the Burnet volleyball program.

“I want to give a shout out to all of our teams,” said Shipley. “All teams from seventh through JV are sitting in first place in the district. That is something most school districts never get an opportunity to say. With an amazing coaching staff and hard working girls, the program is growing and raising the bar for Burnet volleyball.”

In play last week the freshman won both of their games, against Jarrell and Gateway, in straight-sets. The JV defeated Jarrell in a three-game battle and swept Gateway on Friday.

The varsity girls came up short to Jarrell on Tuesday in four sets. Burnet won the second set, 25-21; but lost after dropping sets one, three, and four 25-18, 25-17, 25-20.

“The varsity Lady Dawgs have had mountains to climb this season, but they continue to work extremely hard and give everything they have,” said Shipley.

Sydne Massoletti was the leader in kills versus Jarrell with 12. She was followed by Teagan Tappe with 11, MaeSyn Gay, eight; Caty Crow, eight; Rylee Hernandez, four; Karissa Killebrew, two; and Katelynn Massey, one.

Aces were scored by Massey with three and Gay one.

Setter R. Hernandez tallied 36 assists, followed by Massoletti, Kyli Davis, and Massey with one each.

Gay had one solo block, and assisted blocks were recorded by Tappe, Gay, R. Hernandez, and Crow with one each.

Libero Davis had 19 digs, followed by R. Hernandez, 16; Massey, 12; Massoletti, 11; Gay, six; Killebrew, three, Addie Hernandez, three; Crow, two; Tappe, one; and Shelby Wagner, one.

On Friday the varsity girls swept Gateway at home, 25-11, 25-13, 25-17. The win clenched a playoff spot for Burnet and kept them in third place in District 19-4A.

The Lady Dawgs will close out district play this Friday on the road at Taylor. Playoffs will begin Oct. 29-31 with bi-district play, continue to watch the Burnet Bulletin for updates on the playoff schedule and opponent.
