The varsity Lady Bulldog basketball team improved their overall record to 13-1 with a pair of wins over the holiday break.

Burnet’s girls defeated Blanco, 53-37 and Georgetown Eastview, 57-55 to reach the 13-1 mark. Those two contests were their final non-district games.

They began 19-4A play on Tuesday with a home game versus Jarrell. The girls in green will be off this Friday due to a five-team district. Burnet’s district includes Jarrell, Salado, Taylor and Lake Belton.

For their first game back after the break Burnet hosted Blanco. A slow first quarter left the Lady Dawgs trailing 5-4 after one but it didn’t take long to see who would have the upper hand in this contest.

Burnet’s shooters went off in the second period. They hit three shots from outside the arc, Makenna Gilmore had one and Grace Gates two, and as a team they combined for 20 points earning them a 24-10 lead at the break.

Blanco used some outside shots to outscore Burnet 16-10 in the third, but the Lady Dawgs closed out the contest with a 19-11 fourth for the 53-37 win.

Burnet had three shooters in double digits. Sydne Massoletti led with 16 points. She was three of four at the line, had one three-pointer and five two-point goals.

Gates scored 11 with two three-point buckets, as well as two two-point shots and an and-one free throw.

MaeSyn Gay posted 10 points, followed by Haley McHam, six; Gilmore, five; Gracyn Bennett, three; and Karley Denton, two.

On Thursday the Lady Dawgs played in a very competitive game versus Georgetown Eastview. The score in this one bounced back-andforth numerous times and stayed close throughout. After one Eastview led, 17-16 and at the break they still had a onepoint lead, 34-33.

After a pair of three-pointers by Bennett in the third the Lady Dawgs carried a 41-39 lead going into the final eight-minutes of play. Each team scored 16 in the fourth which led to Burnet’s 57-55 victory.

Every Lady Dawg on the roster produced points and aided in a hard-fought victory.

Bennett led with 16, followed by Massoletti, 13; Gay, 10; Gilmore, five; Shelby Wagner, four; Denton, three; McHam, three, Gates, two; and Abigail Aguillon, one.

Burnet combined for seven three-pointers in the game. Massoletti and Bennett led with two-each.

The Lady Dawgs will be at Salado on Tuesday, Jan. 12 and will host Taylor here on Friday, Jan. 15.
